4 months old Me |
3 years old Gisella was a giggly happy toddler. I lived in Jember that time. I learnt how to read at 3, and joined a kindergarten. I did not do well that time because I rarely attended it. My parents used to go to Malang a lot to visit my maternal grandma. That made me absent a lot, so my dad decided that I should quit. At the age of 5, I started the primary. The normal age was 6 or 7, but I insisted to start earlier because I had nothing else to do. Being the youngest in class was not so bad for me, because I could get a long both with the friends and the subjects. I had always been in the first 3rd rank, either 1st, 2nd, or 3rd.
In 2006, I moved to Malang because my dad had to take his master degree. I went to Saint Mary II for my secondary. I hated English so much that time, I always failed in it. It was so hard to try to know what was the best for my self. I felt like I was not good at anything. Haha! 3 years later, secondary was over and I got accepted in almost the best high school in Malang, St. Albertus Catholic Senior High School ( Dempo ). Since I found science kind of hard, being one of the science student there was a bit difficult for me. I had to struggle hard that time. However, the good thing is that I made it and passed right on the 3rd year. I was still the youngest. During the high school, I was learning how to learn and discover new things, more like finding where my passion was in. I still was not able to find it until I found this one thing.
There was this social network called Facebook which was so popular. I was kind of outdated but then I decided to make an account there and be more "Up to Date". I met a lot of friends from around the world through it. I got fed up because I did not know how to talk to them as my English was horrible. However, I found it a bit interesting and challenging so I started to learn English more, and I started to like it. I could not believe how it happened as I hated it in the secondary. That was when I finally realized that my passion was actually in languages. I learnt all by myself instead of taking any courses. As the time flies, I could speak fluently. I watched a lot of English movies, I listened to English songs, and those online friends of mine taught me some. It is hard to cope with the distance when you are really close to someone. I have always wanted to meet my friends who are miles away from me. Also, I have learnt that in learning something, you have to understand it instead of memorizing it, because once you understand it, it will be automatically memorized and stored in your brain. I love languages a lot. Therefore, I want to learn as much as I can. So far, I have ever learnt Farsi, Spanish, Italian, Hindi, Polish, Japanese, and some Arabic. I know at least few words of them, although I am not fluent enough, and I will still keep learning more.

Always go for your dreams and that is the spirit of life. I like the way you organize the words but there are some minor mistakes such as "talk with", you should revise it with "talk to" and then you forgot to type "of" after the "instead", so the sentence should be "you have to understand it, instead of memorizing". After all, your writing is good.
ReplyDeleteWhoaaa, what a good story!
ReplyDeleteYou can make your dream comes true, Giselle!
Anyway, you said that you want to mastered several languages and I think you should join with the Community Of Polyglot (if I am not mistaken). Sounds weird but there are a lot of people who has mastered several languages.
